Difficult moments? put some poetry in your life!

Some moths ago we had to take a poem to class in order to share and reading it there. I think that it was an interesting activity, I didn’t read poetry from years and I have to confess I enjoyed a lot.

I tried Susan Polis, who is an American poet and producer of greeting cards. She was born in Peekskill, NY in 1944. A long time activist for women’s rights and antiwar causes, she initially worked as a freelance writer. In 1971, she turned here hobby of writing poetry into a commercial venture by founding (with husband Stephen Schutz) the greeting card and poster company Blue Mountain Arts.

Schutz’s poetry focuses heavily on themes of love, family, motherhood, trust and gratitude. Her poems’ simple language and unrhymed free verse give them an approachable and sincere quality. However, their predictable idiom, consisting mainly of straightforward declaration of strong emotion, has led some readers to deride them and being kitschy and cloying.

I want to post this poem because maybe it will help to cheer up who need a bit of support and courage in difficult moments. Enjoy the poem!

This life is yours
Take the power
to choose what you want to do
and do it well.
Take the power
to love what you want in life
and love it honestly.
Take the power
to walk in the forest
and be a part of nature.
Take the power
to control your own life
no one else can do it for you
nothing is too good for you
you deserve the best.
Take the power
to make your life
healthy
exciting
worthwhile
and very happy.
Take the power
To reach for your dreams.
